Differences In Ringtone Types
Monophonic:
Monophonic ringtones were the very first type of ringtone. They
consist of a set of beeps where only one is played at a time
creating a unique sound. The majority of older mobile phones only
support monophonic tones. Newer phones however tend not to support
monophonic ringtones. Monophonic ringtones can also be referred to
as mono ringtones, monotones or just ringtones.
Polyphonic:
Polyphonic ringtones are the newer and updated version of Monophonic
ringtones. They composed of a synthesised sound allowing a wider
range of higher-quality beeps and melodies to all be played at once.
Hence they provide a better quality of sound then monophonic
ringtones. Most new mobile phones support polyphonic ringtones. Some
phones support realtone ringtones but do not support polyphonic or
monotonic ringtones. Newer phones that do not support realtone
ringtones typically support both polyphonic and monotonic ringtones.
Polyphonic ringtones are sometimes also called poly ringtones, poly
tones, polytones, synth tones or synthtones.
MP3/Realtones:
Realtones are the newest and most advanced type of ringtone. They
incorporate a huge range of sounds all played at once and are even
created from real music making realtones sound just like real thing.
All the latest mobile phones support realtones. Phones that support
realtones on the whole also support Polyphonic ringtones but have a
tendency not to support monophonic ringtones. Realtones are also
known as real ringtones, real tones, true ringtones, true tones,
truetones, MP3 ringtones, MP3 tones or just MP3.

selected your network operator you will be taken to the ringtones
source. You will then need to enter your mobile number and will be
sent a SMS text message finally you will need to reply ‘OK’ to the
